PetSafe Comfort-Fit Deluxe Little Dog In-Ground Fence System
This PetSafe In-Ground Fence For Little Dogs has been tested and shown to be safe, sufficient, and useful for all pets up to 55 pounds with neck sizes 6" - 26". The supplied system is capable of covering up to 1/3 of an acre. The system works by creating a radio signal from the Fence Transmitter through up to the 4,000 feet of boundary wire.
The boundary wire is hidden or bonded to a fixed physical object to confine the pets boundries. The owner must whilst training delineate the pet area with boundary flags.
The pet wears a receiver collar with contact points that touch on his neck, and, once fully trained, is permitted to roam freely in the pet area.
When a trained pet arrives at a warning zone, the receiver collar emits a warning beep. If your pet persists in moving towards the boundary into the static correction zone, a safe correction will be delivered through the contact points until he returns to the pet area.
Features Include :
* Smaller waterproof receiver collar fitted with quick fit buckle provides quick release and perfect fit every time
* System capable of covering up to 25 acres with additional wire and flags
* Flexible collar receiver correction 4 levels plus tone only
* Low battery indicator with built-in lightening protection for electrical system
* Operating and training guide Step-by-step installation and training DVD
* Lifetime limited warranty
Underground Dog Fence V's Visible Dog Fence The Pro's and Cons
Every dog needs exercised to be healthy. A dog chained in the backyard will not grow into the happy pet that you want. For this reason, it is important to use a underground dog fence (electronic dog fence) to provide a secure space where your dog can run and play, safe and sound away from traffic and walkers or alternatively you could put up a physical fence or wall both of which do much the same job.
When deciding what type of dog fence to use to confine your dog but allow them freedom to roam on your property, you have two main options between: visible dog fences and hidden or underground dog fences.
Visible Dog Fences
Erecting a obvious, or conventional dog fence is the most common way for you to control your dog keeping them within your property boundries.
The most inexpensive and fastest way to construct a domestic dog fence is to use a snow fence. The gabs in the a typical snow fence will be small enough to prevent even most smaller dogs from escaping (rest assured they are determined and will find any weak point in your fencing so choose carefully).
Whilst functional snow fencing will not win any awards for asethics so it might not be perfect to have to look out on every day from your window. It will do the job but will need some maintenance to keep it looking and being in good condition.
Perhaps slightly more pleasing on the eye (if not on the pocket) are chain link fences and picket type fences. These again can work at keeping your dog confined and they can if properly fitted be very robust.
If you choose the pciket fence option it will need to be tall enough to stop your dog either clambering up and over it or just jumping it. Double your estimate as to how high your dog will jump. The down side to either of these types of fences is they take a while to install properly and aren't cheap especially over larger areas.
A downside to chain link fences is a child could push something through (or a tiny hand) and the dog will be able to bite the child leading to all sorts of problems.
There is only one practically guaranteed physical way of stop your dog but it's super expensive and may even be prohibited in your area and that is a brick wall but we are talking serious money and planning restrictions may also prevent this option.
Hidden or Underground Dog Fences
If you do not prefer to contruct a visible fence, just because of cost or it will spoil the look of your house and garden you might want to consider setting up a hidden dog fence sometimes referred to as a electronic dog fence or underground dog fence although they are infact very different in their operation.
With a wireless dog fences, a radio transmitter is plac
ed at the heart of the area where you would like to contain your dog. The radio transmitter then emits a signal to the surrounding area that defines the perimeter of your property.
On the opposite side of this system you fit a radio collar to your dog that beeps as the dogs approaches the edge of your property and if the dog still continues the dog is given a mild but painful electric shock (it's a bit like a sudden bee sting but stops in seconds once the dog turns back) .
This method after your training ( a process known as conditioning your dog) is highly effective at keeping your dog on your property without having to put up a real fence.
In principle the underground dog fence is similar to a wireless dog fence, except that the perimeter is defined by laying underground cables that trigger your dog’s receiver collar rather than a radio transmitter.
The chief advantage of hidden underground dog fences is that, quite simply, you do not have to arrange the time and pay for a physical fence or wall to be built.
This in addition means you do not have to be taken up with meeting any zoning regulations. The disadvantage of out of sight dog fences is substantial, however: if your dog brushes aside the shock, there's nothing holding back your dog from leaving your property.
Fact is, concealed dog fences won't work with dogs that are hard to train as getting to dog to remain within the invisible perimeter is basically a training process which you will need to teach your dog.
Even even the most absolutely perfect trained dog might have sufficient reason one day to dismiss the shock and run after something such as rabbit of cat or worse.
